  • How many LStream cards can I add to each LynxTWO/L22 or AES16 card?
  • Since the LS-ADAT provides 16 channels of I/O, and the Lynx Mixer has 16-channels, what happens to the other I/O when I’m using the LS-ADAT card?
  • How can I access LS-ADAT outputs with a LynxTWO or L22?
  • How can I access LS-AES outputs with a LynxTWO or L22?
  • How can I access LS-ADAT outputs with an AES16?
  • How can I access LS-ADAT inputs with a LynxTWO or L22?
  • How can I access LS-AES inputs with a LynxTWO or L22?
  • How can I access LS-ADAT inputs with an AES16?
  • How do I record 96Khz through the inputs of the LS-ADAT?
  • How do I install a second LS-AES card for the LynxTWO/L22?
  • Can I record or play 192kHz audio with the LS-AES?
  • How do I use ADAT sync as a clock source with the LS-ADAT card?
  • My LS-AES is supposed to be an 8-in/8-out card, but I only see 4 male and 4 female XLR connections. What gives?

How do I record 96Khz through the inputs of the LS-ADAT?
All OS

When the Lynx Card which is connected to an LS-ADAT is presented with a sample rate higher than 48kHz, either from an external clock source or from it’s own internal clock, it automatically switches to S/MUX mode - the protocol for using high sample rates with ADAT lightpipe devices. In this mode, the number of input and output channels per ADAT port is reduced according to the sample rate being used. One can achieve 4 channels per port at 88.2/96kHz, and 2 channels per port at 176/192kHz.

It is important to understand the impact that this has on how audio is routed through the system. The chart below details the channel assignments at high sample rates:

88.1/96 kHz Sample Rate 176.4/192 kHz Sample Rate
LStream Channel ADAT Channel LStream Channel ADAT Channel
1 1-2 1 1-4
2 3-4 2 5-8
3 5-6 3 9-12
4 7-8 4 13-16
5 9-10 5-16 NOT VALID
6 11-12
7 13-14
8 15-16
9-16 NOT VALID

S/MUX is enabled on demand, based on the sample rate currently selected for recording or playback. As such, the mapping of channels will change when the sample rate changes. The user must be keenly aware of this “automatic” re-mapping to avoid mixing and routing problems.
