How do I install the LynxTWO/L22 card?
STEP 1: Hardware Installation
  1. Turn OFF the power to your computer system and disconnect the power cords.
  2. Touch a metal plate on your computer system to ground yourself and discharge any static electricity.
  3. Remove the cover from your computer chassis and select an empty PCI slot in your computer.
  4. You should refer to your computer system documentation for any special instructions on installing expansion cards and peripheral equipment.
  5. Unscrew and remove the slot cover from your selected PCI slot.
  6. Insert the Lynx card into the selected PCI slot and press it down so that the contacts are securely seated.
  7. Secure the bracket of the Lynx card to the computer chassis using a chassis screw or retaining bracket.
  8. Replace the computer chassis cover and reconnect the power cord.
  9. Connect the Audio cables to the Lynx card. See the External Connections section of the User Guide for more information.
STEP 2: Installation Files

The Lynx Installation CD contains all driver files mentioned in the subsequent installation steps, as well as the LynxTWO/L22 manual, driver release notes and test files. If you do not have a CD-ROM drive or need a more recent version, these files are available on our website at http://www.lynxstudio.com/support_downloads.asp.

The following instructions will presume that the installation is occuring from a downloaded driver. If using the Lynx Installation CD instead with a Windows computer, choose "removable media" instead of "C:\Lynx" as the driver location.

STEP 3: Installing the Driver Package
Version 1/NT4 driver Windows NT/2000/XP
Version 2/WDM driver Windows 2000/XP
Version 2/WDM driver Windows Vista
Macintosh OS 9
Macintosh OS X

Version 1/NT4 driver Windows NT/2000/XP

* Please note that on some computers, you must have the "PNP OS Installed" option in your BIOS set to NO for the Version 1 driver package to function properly with Windows 2000/XP. If "PNP OS Installed" is set to YES you may receive a memory error when running the Lynx Setup program. If this occurs, simply change the PNP OS Installed option in the BIOS to NO and rerun Setup. If your BIOS does not offer this option, it is necessary to run the Plug-n-Play upgrade available on our drivers page: http://www.lynxstudio.com/support_downloads.asp, after installing the driver.

The Version 1 driver is NOT compatible with Windows Vista.

1. After installing the LynxTWO/L22 in your computer, the New Hardware Wizard will launch when you boot into Windows. Since the Version 1 driver is a Windows NT 4.0 driver model, rather than a Plug-n-Play driver, a slightly different procedure must be followed. Click “Cancel” at the Found New Hardware Wizard welcome screen.

2. Next, double-click the Lynx “Setup0XX.exe” file that was included on your Lynx Installation CD or that you downloaded from the Lynx support page.

3. When prompted, accept the default driver destination folder (C:\Lynx) by clicking “Install”

4. Click “Continue” at the NT Driver Installation Wizard confirmation window

5. After copying files successfully, an Installation Complete window will appear. Click “Close”. The LynxTWO/L22 driver and Lynx Mixer application are now ready to use.

Version 2/WDM driver Windows 2000/XP

1. When you start Windows after installing the LynxTWO/L22 into your computer, the New Hardware Wizard will appear. Before using the wizard, double click the Version 2 driver file (L2WDMXXX.exe) to expand the required files and accept the default directory of C:\Lynx. Then return to the New Hardware Wizard and select “Install from a list or specific location” and click “Next >” to proceed (NOTE: In Windows 2000, click “Next>” on the New Hardware Wizard welcome screen, on the Install Hardware Device Driver dialog box, choose “Search for a suitable driver for my device” and click “Next>”).

2. From the next window, select "Include this location in the search”, and type C:\Lynx in the data field. Click "Next >" to proceed (NOTE: In Windows 2000 select “Specify a location” to locate driver files, and click “Next>”. From the next screen click, type C:\Lynx in the data field, then click “OK”. When the wizard finishes searching for the appropriate driver click “Next>”).

3. Windows will begin to search for the appropriate driver files.

4. You may receive a warning that the driver has not been digitally signed by Microsoft. It is perfectly safe to disregard this warning and select “Continue Anyway” (In Windows 2000 click “Yes” to continue installation).

5. The driver installation will continue. After several moments, the new hardware wizard will indicate that it has completed the installation. Click “Finish”.

6. Navigate to the C:\Lynx folder and locate lynxapps.inf [setup information]. Right-click this file and select "install". The Lynx driver and mixer application are now ready to use.

Version 2/WDM driver Windows Vista

1. When you start Windows after installing the LynxTWO/L22 into your computer, the New Hardware Wizard will appear. Before using the wizard, double click the Version 2 driver file (L2WDMXXX.exe) to expand the required files and accept the default directory of C:\Lynx.

Then return to the New Hardware Wizard and select “Locate and install driver software (recommended)”.

2. The system will unsuccessfully attempt to locate drivers via Windows Update. On the next screen, you will be asked to install a driver disk. Select “I don’t have the disc. Show me other options.”

3. The next screen will claim that Windows couldn’t find a driver. Choose “Browse my computer for driver software (advanced)”.

4. On the next screen, you will be prompted to specify a location for the driver files. Either click “Browse” and navigate to the Lynx folder on the C: drive, or type in “C:\Lynx”. Then click “Next”.

5. If you are prompted to confirm the installation, click “Install”.

6. The driver installation will proceed and then indicate that the installation has completed successfully.

7. Navigate to C:\Lynx, and right-click on LynxApps.inf (Setup Information) and choose "Install". The driver and mixer app are now installed and ready to use.

Macintosh OS 9

For Macintosh compatibility, the firmware stored in the on-board flash memory must be updated prior to use. This is required because the AES16 ships from the factory with Windows firmware installed. To update the firmware:

  1. Locate the file L2Update_OS9.sit file on the Lynx Installation CD and drag the file onto the computer desktop, or download the latest OS9 firmware file from http://www.lynxstudio.com/support_downloads.asp to the computer desktop.
  2. Expand the firmware updater to the desktop using Aladdin Expander 5.0 or higher. An L2Update program icon should now be on your desktop.
  3. Make sure that no applications are open before running the firmware updater.
  4. Run L2Update by double clicking on the “L2Update” program icon.
  5. In a few moments, the LynxTWO/L22/AES16 Firmware Updater dialog box should appear. Confirm that the correct Lynx Card model appears under Model, and also confirm that the Firmware Version and New Firmware Versions are NOT the same.

6. Select “Update” and click “OK” when prompted to confirm the Update.

While the firmware updater is programming the on-board flash memory, it is crucial that you do not power off the computer or interrupt the process in any way.

7. When the update is complete, you will be prompted to power off the computer.

8. After shutting down, wait for at least 10 seconds, then power the computer back on.

Macintosh OS X

Install the Lynx OSX Core Audio Driver and Mixer

  1. Locate the file Lynx_OSX.pkg file on the Lynx Installation CD and drag the file onto the computer desktop, or download the latest OSX driver file from www.lynxstudio.com/support_downloads.asp and unzip it to the computer desktop.
  2. Double-click on the Lynx_OSX.pkg file. This will start the driver installation.
  3. Click “Continue” at the Install LynxTWO/L22/AES16 Audio Driver dialog box.

4. When prompted to select a destination for the audio driver, click on “Macintosh HD” and then click “Continue”.

5. Click “Install” on the next dialog box that appears.

6. Enter your password in the Authenticate dialog box and click “OK”.

7. Click “Continue Installation” in the next dialog box that appears.

8. When the install is complete, you will be prompted to restart the computer.

NOTE: The OSX installation process installs both the Core Audio driver and the Lynx Mixer application. The Lynx Mixer application is installed in the applications folder.
