Lynx Announces AES16e PCI Express AES/EBU Interfaces

Three models, including AES50 model, will be available

NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 5, 2007 The 2007 New York AES Show was the site for Lynx Studio Technology’s US debut of the new AES16e PCI Express 192 kHz digital audio interfaces. The AES16e offers 16 channels of 192 kHz AES/EBU I/O. In addition to the base model, other versions will include sixteen channels of sample rate conversion and 48 additional digital channels via AES50 technology.

“Our goal has been to take the capabilities of our industry-standard AES16 and update its feature set, while taking advantage of the benefits of the PCI Express interface,” announced Bob Bauman, chief hardware designer and Lynx co-founder. “The architecture and higher bandwidth of PCI Express reduces bottlenecks and overhead that allow us to set the bar even higher for computer-based high end audio.”

The AES16e x1 PCI Express card provides 16 channels of 24-bit AES/EBU digital audio at a 192 kHz sample rate in both single-wire and dual-wire AES modes. Designed to integrate digital consoles, multichannel A/D and D/A converters, hard disk recorders, digital audio workstations and other digital audio equipment, the AES16e is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The AES16e-SRC will provide 16 channels of sample rate conversion on either the inputs or outputs. The third model, tentatively named the AES16e-50, will add up to 48 digital I/O channels using AES50 technology, carrying the digital signal on standard CAT5 or CAT6 cable.

“With Apple and other computer companies making more PCI Express computers available, we have listened to our customers’ requests for PCI Express interfaces that offer Lynx’s audio quality, driver stability and reliability,” stated David Hoatson, company co-founder. “The PCI Express format presents us with many interesting options for expanding the Lynx line and offering our customers some added capabilities for these powerful new computers.”

The AES16e will have a US suggested retail price of $795. The AES16e-SRC will retail for $895. Both will be available in late 2007. The price and availability of the AES16e-50 will be announced at a later time.
