Dylan Dresdow’s Paper V.U. Studios adds Lynx Aurora Converters to ProTools®-Based Studio

Grammy Nominated Engineer for Black Eyed Peas, Nas, Christina Aguilera, TLC and many others adds Aurora converters for improved audio quality.

Dylan “3-D” Dresdow, one of Los Angeles’ go-to tracking and mixing engineers, recently added two Aurora converters from Lynx Studio Technology to his North Hollywood-based Paper V.U. Studios. Dresdow chose the Auroras with the LT-HD interface that allows him to use Aurora’s pristine A/D and D/A conversion in his 32-channel ProTools rig.

“I enjoy working with the ProTools program, but I needed more definition and clarity than I was getting with my converters. After comparing the top converters out there, and getting a chance to hear Aurora in my own studio, I was sold,” explained Dresdow. “The Auroras are perfect for me, due to their functionality and sound. With the LT-HD interface, I just plugged in the Digilink cables and I was up and running.”

Dresdow thoroughly researched several high-end converters on the market. As he prefers converters that are clocked internally, the SynchroLock word clock in Aurora, with its 3000:1 jitter reduction, allowed Aurora to meet this requirement. “I’ve seen jitter PPMs multiply hundreds of times from a simple BNC connector, so this low-jitter internal clock is imperative for my way of working. Some of the great sounding converters don’t sound as great to my ears when they’re using an external clock,” stated Dresdow. “Plus Lynx’s customer service is second to none, which is very important for me. They were there and answered all of my questions before the purchase, and I asked some tough questions.”

The first session for which Dresdow used the Aurora was “Hip Hop is Dead” by Nas. In the first week of January, 2007, “Hip Hop is Dead” was #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums, Top Digital Albums, Contemporary Albums, and Tastemakers charts.

After graduating from the Full Sail School for Recording Arts, Dresdow came to Los Angeles and began his studio career at The Enterprise Studios in Burbank. He assisted legendary mix engineer Dave “Hard Drive” Pensado for acts including Destiny’s Child, Brian McKnight and Sisqo. After a year, he began tracking and mixing on his own and subsequently began racking up platinum credits working for such artists as The Black Eyed Peas, Ice Cube, Coolio, Redman, Method Man, TLC, Wu Tang Clan and contributed to the cover of “Lady Marmalade” performed my Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Mya, Lil Kim, and Missy Elliot. Dresdow opened Paper V.U. Studios in 2006 where he has mixed many hit artists including will.i.am, The Game, Nas, Ciara, Talib Kweli, Macy Gray, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Herbie Hancock, Fatlip, Daddy Yankee, and many more. As a freelance engineer, Dylan still commonly works at places like The Record Plant, Larabee, The Village Recorder, and the Hit Factory/Criteria.
