Paul Stubblebine Mastering Puts New Lynx Aurora Converters to Heavy Use

PAUL STUBBLEBINE MASTERING PUTS NEW LYNX AURORA CONVERTERS TO HEAVY USE

Mastering Engineer Michael Romanowski Utilizes the Versatile Aurora 8 Converter for In-Studio, Location Tracking and Mastering Projects

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - AUGUST 10, 2005 Since receiving their first Lynx Aurora D/A A/D converter, Paul Stubblebine Mastering has applied it to a smorgasbord of audio tasks. In addition to using it for their world-class mastering efforts, engineer Michael Romanowski has used Aurora for tracking at his own studio and on location.

In house, the Aurora 8 has been used for several recent mastering projects. "We found we have great results using Aurora with our Dangerous 2-BUS. Putting eight quality channels into the 2-BUS really opens up the headroom and gives us great definition and imaging. I have used Aurora for mastering at all of its sample rates, from 44.1 to 192 kHz to get to our Red Book masters," explained Romanowski.

Michael's compact location rig is anchored by Nuendo, Aurora 8 and Millennia preamps. He has used this system to record chamber music and a choir in a local church, Bay Area rock duo The DU*DS at their South San Francisco studio, full tracking for artist Greg Murai's November release, live concert recordings, and many other varied voices and instruments. "Having all of this A/D and D/A power in a single rack space is perfect for my location system. With this rack and a case of mics and cables, I'm ready for just about any location task," stated Romanowski. "The Lynx AES16 PCI card allows Aurora to interface seamlessly with Nuendo. Using Aurora's SynchroLock clock as the master clock was extremely stable and very clear sounding."

Adjacent to Paul Stubblebine Mastering, Michael Romanowski has used Aurora for a recent tracking project at Coast Recorders. The classical piano session used Aurora for the analog to digital conversion in simple set up that included Telefunken, Neumann, and DPA mics into Millennia preamps and Nuendo.

"When we first received Aurora, we put it through all of its paces. We tested it with many sources against all of our converters, including our Pacific Microsonics reference converter, which is in the $7500 per channel range. Our finding was that Aurora stands up with anybody out there and clearly outclassed many converters that we have been using," Romanowski explained. "We can't wait to add the Aurora 16 to the studio. It's a no-brainer."

Paul Stubblebine Mastering and DVD offers mastering, DVD audio and video services from their new location in San Francisco at 1340 Mission Street. They can be reached at 415-863-2010. More information is available from their website at http://www.paulstubblebine.com.
