I have 2 Lynx Aurora 16's, with older firmware that allows me to record 32 channels at once.  A great feature for me because I do quite a bit of live recording.  I am building out a new control room with patchbays and a new monitoring station, the Cranesong Avocet.  I'd like to know how to use these pieces of gear together... is it possible to reserve all 32 channels of analog output from the Aurora 16's for mixdown, AND send the tracks digitally to the Cranesong for monitoring?

Note: the AES connections on the Aurora's need to be connected to each other in order for the 32 channel option to work.

The Avocet has XLR connectors in the back that are either SPDIF, AES, or 2 wire AES.

How does your Aurora connect to the Computer? PT HD, USB, Thunderbolt, firewire, or ??

At this point firewire.  I am going to be doing an upgrade and getting a different computer... likely a PCAudio Labs computer.  I'm presently using a Mac Pro with boot camp and Win 7.

Ah, unfortunately this method of connecting the Auroras together will use up all of the digital I/O.

You could use a different cable solution for one of the two digital ports, like using two of our http://www.lynxstudio.com/product_detail.asp?i=31" rel="nofollow - DIGY85 cables, connecting the male XLRs to the female XLRs and leave one pair free for the Cranesong. SO you would have 30 channels of Aurora conversion and two channels of cranesong.

With a thunderbolt system you could have 32 channel of analog plus 8-32 channels of AES at the same time, FWIW.

would a thunderbolt system on the computer give me 32 channels at once?  So I would ditch the Aurora firewire card I'm presently using?

If both Auroras were equipped with the Thunderbolt cards, you would have 32 channels of analog I/O and up to 32 channels of AES Digital I/O as well. A max of 64 channels
