Hopefully you can find another DAW you are satisfied with for your Windows system. There are plenty to choose from.

I've raised my beef with Avid about horrible performance using Thunderbolt, and though they did try a lot of things to help me out with it, ultimately the official line is "Not supported." I let my upgrade subscription lapse. I'll re-subscribe when they support Thunderbolt interfaces on Windows.

I didn't see what firmware version you have on your LT-TB card. If it is 6.2, you might try 5.5 and see if that works any better for you. Here is the link
Ultimately, ProTools on Windows is not particularly efficient. You might test with a different DAW just to see if the problem is system wide, or ProTools specific.

Hey Paul, thanks for the reply. I thought I'd posted a screenshot of the "about" screen, but I guess I hadn't. I had already done an in-place upgrade to driver version 23g (I did not uninstall, reboot, then install the newer version). I just tried the process you recommended, reinstalling the 23g driver.

Unfortunately, the problem still persists.

Anything else I can try?

For use with protools on Windows, driver build 23g is strongly recommended.
First uninstall your existing driver form Start > Programs > Lynx Studio Technology > Uninstall Lynx Driver.
Reboot when prompted.
Then download and install driver build 23g

The Aurora firmware would be irrelevant, there's no reason to update that.

y I can't seem to figure this out - I've also posted in the Avid forums to no avail, I figured I'd try here. If I go below 128 sample buffer (or sometimes at 128) I get so many clicks/pops recording's about impossible. My system is fast enough to be able to get to 64 or 32 sample buffer (I think). Not sure what, if anything, I can do to improve on this.

I've gone through the Avid optimization guide for Windows and done everything they suggest, including BIOS settings.

Also - I have tried to update the firmware on the Aurora & LT-TB, but when I run the latest AruroraUpdate.exe, I get an hourglass briefly then it just disappears. I did get the driver updated to the latest version.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

System specs are as follows:

  • Aurora 16 LT-TB (version info below)
  • Pro Tools 12.4
  • Windows 10
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 6-core 2.5 GHz Intel i7-5930k processor
  • 256GB Crucial SSD (OS/Pro Tools)
  • 2TB Crucial SSD (Audio/Data)
  • Asus X99 Deluxe II Motherboard w/ Thunderbolt 3 (startech.com adapter)
