I have a dual boot iMac running El Capitan and Windows 10, I've done all the optimising for Windows I can find on the net but the difference in latency is shockingly bad, I can comfortably run the Hilo at 44.1khz with a buffer of 128 on OSX but I need to push it up to 512 on Windows.  Am I missing something or is ASIO just garbage?

What version driver are you using on Windows?

The performance should actually be much better on ASIO - the issue is probably the fact that you have no control over the BIOS settings like you do on a real Windows computer.  No way to turn off the SpeedStep, C1E, C3 and C6 performance sucking 'features' from Intel.  So that wouldn't be an issue with ASIO, that is an issue with the Mac.

Latest driver and no access to bios so I guess I'm stuck then, would upgrading from usb to thunderbolt fix it?  Would be cheaper than building a new machine.

You didn't mention in your first post that this is a Hilo-USB.  Make sure you set your "Buffer Settings" to "Minimum Latency" for "USB Streaming Mode" in the Hilo USB Control Panel.  Yes, going to Thunderbolt would get much better latency performance.

I've tried minimum latency but it was snap crackle and pop, maybe i'll try again but increase the buffer size in Sequoia and see if it makes a difference, thanks for tips David.

Well tweak my nipples and call me Susan!  I must've tried selecting a latency lower than Sequoia suggested when I first tried low latency mode, cos that just halved my latency, I wrongly assumed that the different settings would just adjust the buffer size, thank's David!
