Hi all!

I am plotting my transition fro prosumer to professional front end in my home studio. An Aurora 16 LT-USB seems to be my choice.

If there is a thread dealing with this directly, my apologies, I haven't found it in search.

I am in need of help concerning some routing options for monitoring and playback:

-Firstly, could I use my Safire Pro40 to accept the anolog outs of the Aurora for monitoring purposes? A D-box is likely on the horizon, but you know, money.

-Second, how would I monitor playback from ProTools? Do I assign individual outputs in PT to the Aurora (over usb). I suppose I could be summing ITB and send 2track to Aurora for DA?

Dizzying options... help!

Win 7 64 Bit
PT 11
Saffire Pro 40
Audient ASP 880
Audient MiCO

Hi,

First, welcome to Lynx! We are here for any questions you may have.

You could use your Safire but it is more electronics in the path...and I do not know if it is a pure pass-through in the Safire or if it converts to digital then back to analog at the outputs, which would also mean having a second conversion cycle...

Most customers use Analog Out 1 & 2 from Aurora into a passive level controller such as the TC Electronics Level Pilot.

In PT, most customers just send all tracks out 1 & 2 (for example) for simple monitoring. If you send out individual outs, you will need to send to a mixer or the eventual D Box.
