Hi all,

i just received and installed a new E44 card in my Windows 10 running computer. Although the sound quality is amazing, i can't make ASIO work properly when selecting sample rates above 48KHZ. No matter what ASIO application i am using (foobar, Jriver or my Cantabile 3.0 VST host), i start getting constant crackling sound when playing 88.2KHZ and above material. I tried to adjust the ASIO buffer but it makes no difference and LatencyMon does not mention any issue. I have no problems with the WASAPI driver.

My configuration is the following :

- Gigabyte Q87TN motherboard, latest BIOS, all Intel EIST stuff disabled
- Intel core i3 4130T processor
- Windows 2010 anniversary release
- Latest firmware and drivers for the Lynx card (no other card installed but the onboard HDMI which is disabled)

Please help, there used to be an EMU 1616M card on this system and i never got that kind of issue with it.

Regards,

Marc.

Hello,

i made some progress on troubleshooting the issue. What actually happens is that the ASIO driver works well with 88.2KHZ to 192KHZ sample rates as long as you don't set the buffer to more than 256 although it seems you can set it to much bigger values when using the 44.1KHZ or 48KHZ rates which is quite surprising.

I reinstalled the PC with a Windows 7 distribution and it behaves the same way so Windows 10 anniversary is not the culprit.

What actually happened is that JRiver does not take care of what is entered in the ASIO configuration control window and always switches to 4096 or 8192 samples when playing 96KHZ and 192KHZ files. There is no such problem with foobar or cantabile.

I hope this might help other users but i don't understand why higher sampling rates do not allow the use of ASIO buffers bigger than 256 in the Lynx driver and it seems to be a bug. I tried older drivers but they act exactly the same way.

I have never encountered that problem with anyone else. very odd, as larger buffer sizes will often be necessary with higher sample rates.

Any chance you could try a DAW like Reaper (free trial here)? Those apps tend to have more true to the SDK ASIO implementation. Just want to check how widespread the issue is.

Do you have your power management profile in Windows set to high performance?
Any other PCIe cards installed in the system?

I tried Reaper but it behaves the same. Windows is set to high performance and there is only one PCI slot on the motherboard plus on M-SATA SSD. The processor is a low power edition, i don't know if this can explain anything.

Hi again, i moved the card to a different PC with a regular mATX motherboard and i don't have any problem. I think there might be some compatibility issue between the thin mini atx motherboards PCIe slot and the Lynx cards.

Sometimes the mini ATX boards have out-of-spec implementation of PCIe. Thanks for the update
