I'm currently running a PT 8 HD system with two Aurora 16's w/ HD cards. FINALLY about to upgrade to a new-ish trashcan and PT12 HDX, using a PCIe expansion chassis connected via Thunderbolt. I need to upgrade the cards in the converters to either PCIe or Thunderbolt. Any reason to choose one over the other?

Hi. If you are using HDX in a Thunderbolt expansion chassis, there is no reason to change the LT-HD cards in Aurora. You just connect them to the HDX card, using AVID's adapters.
You will want to make sure the Auroras are updated to Firmware 28 and the LT-HDs are Firmware 11 (You will need to update via a MIDI interface like the MIDISPORT 1x1). Run the Updater, update the Aurora then select the LT-HD from the Updater's "Unit to Update" pulldown and update the LT-HD card. Each Aurora needs to be connected separately so update one Aurora and card, then the other. |

Thank you! Just to clarify, the cards in the Lynx currently (connected to an old PCI - not PCIe -TDM card) are the same spec as I'll use with the HDX card?

Yes, the LT-HD card inside the Aurora has not changed. Only the firmware needs to be updated.
