Topic: AES16e crashes after driver update Posted: November/11/2015 at 11:40pm |
System: - AES16e with Lynx Aurora 16 - Windows 7 SP1 64bit - Pro Tools 11.3.2 native the last few years, our DAW works perfectly. Because of the new latency feature of the new AES16e driver and firmware, we decided to update our AES16e... The new latency-times are really unbelievable, love them so much, but there is still a big problem within Pro Tools 11. Changing the buffer size in Pro Tools leads Pro Tools to crash. Not every time but most of the time! This behavior must be related to the update because it works great before! Has anyone the same problems? Greetings from Germany, Daniel |

Are you using driver build 23?
Please describe the crash. What exactly is the error message? |

We use the latest driver and firmware from your homepage. Unfortunately there is no error message, Pro Tools crashes immediatly while changing the buffer size and shuts down. After restarting PT, everything works fine and the new buffer size is applied.
However, this doesn't happen always but most of the time. Also, it's no difference if we change the buffer size within a session with many audio tracks or within a session with less or no audio tracks.

Are you changing the buffer size from the Playback Engine screen, or from hardware setup?

Directly in Pro Tools from the Playback Engine screen.

Try this firmware updater and see if the behavior changes.

Paul, I've tried the updater but without any improvements. But, after the succeeded update, the PC crashes with a bluescreen while pressing the "Power off" button. The bluescreen says "graphics errror", so I've checked the IRQ ressources after the reboot. The two graphic cards and the AES16e have the same IRQ (16), could this be a problem?

It shouldn't be. Our driver can share interrupts with other devices without issue. It could be that the graphics driver is having an issue. You might try updating that driver.

We've tried updating the graphics driver but without success. The buffer crash still exists
There is no possibility to change the buffer size outside Pro Tools, isn't it?

Unfortunately you cannot. Very odd. If you have an alternate video card lying around you might try that to see if the behavior changes.
There should be version 23a of our driver getting posted soon. You might try that. Make sure and uninstall build 23 from the Lynx Studio Technology program group first. I suspect a hardware level conflict with the video card though. Do you have a different PCIe slot you can install the AES16e card into?

We've tried un- and reinstall the AES16e driver without success. Our PCIe slots are all filled with video, UADs and AES16e, so there is no chance to change the slots because of thermal reasons.
Everything except the buffer change works really fine after the update, could this really be a hardware conflict?

I'm having exactly the same problem. I have two AES 16e cards, updated as of late Oct 2015, I'll post version #'s when I'm in front of my studio computer next, PT 11.3.2 & Windows 7. PT crashes when changing buffer size to a lower setting. No session needs to be opened. Changing the buffer size from within the PT audio engine to a lower setting (excepting going from 128 to 64) crashes PT immediately. I spent over an hour the other night troubleshooting the symtoms of this and I found that changing the buffer to a higher setting is fine (256 to 512 for example), no problem, however changing to a lower setting causes the problem (512 to 256, except 128 to 64 this never caused a crash). Just as the original poster said the new buffer setting which caused the crash is then applied when PT is reopened. I though that by checking the Lynx setting "Allow clock change...." solved the problem but that was before I thoroughly diagnosed the symptoms. I have not expereinced any blue screens or video related issues.

Aaron, please try the driver that David posted. Make sure and run the Uninstall from the Lynx Studio Technology program group first.
