Many thanks Michael for your prompt and helpful reply!
I will check with Mogami but the cable you mention should be easy to find too. Thanks again. Alex |

Hi Alex,
A cross-over cable generally refers to Input pins one end going to Output pins on the other. It is not necessarily a "format converting" cable as far as which channels are on which pins. If Mogami does not specifically state that a cable has a different pin format at each end, you can use the YAMAHA PT/MX cable. Yes, you would connect the 25 pin AES cable to the AES 1-8 connector on Aurora. Having the Aurora in 32 channel mode (its default) will ensure that all channels will appear in the DAW. |

Hello folks,
I'm thinking of purchasing an Aurora 16 (Thunderbolt version) and am also eyeing up a Focusrite ISA 828 with an AES digital option card. I'm aware that the Focusrite wires to Tascam and that the Lynx wires to Yamaha (hence the need to purchase a cross-over cable such as this one). I'm also aware that the Thunderbolt card version of the Aurora 16 is capable of running 32 channels simultaneously (16 Analog + 16 Digital, i.e. 2x8 AES in/out). I have two questions: 1) Assuming I purchase the correct cross-over AES cable, would I need simply to plug the output of the Focusrite's AES output to AES 1-8 port of the Lynx or do I have to somehow manage to use both AES ports (for whatever reason)? 2) I use Logic and Pro Tools. If I want to use the Lynx in PT mode, do I get the full use of the 16 Analog ins + 16 Digital ins? I am aware that Avid limit non-HD/HDX hardware to 32 channels. Many thanks, Alex Edited by Alexis1537 - August/13/2015 at 8:13am |
