IO Hardware Adapter Error - LynxTwo

I'm getting an IO Hardware Adapter Error on my LynxTwo. The only place the card is visible is in the Device manager ... with the error message attached.

A month earlier I experienced something similar. I took the opportunity to upgrade the firmware and the driver to the latest version and decoupled the power amp. The card came back when the power amp was disconnected. I switched to a different power amp to isolate the problem. The card started to work again. So I assumed it was the amp. But now the card is malfunctioning again - even when the power amp is disconnected.

I've had the card for more than 10 years, and for quite a few of those, the PC has been turned on 24/7. Has the card perhaps been worn out?

I've tried the hardware test, but the demo app doesn't even see the sound card.

Thanks for responding.

The message is: "IO hardware adaptor error".

The mixer does not open when this happens.

After I posted my first message above here, I disconnected the PC and opened it to replace a DVD drive. When I put it back and turned it on, LynxTwo came back too.

Right now it isn't hooked up to a power amp, but it seems to be working... 

The DVD drive has been defect for a couple of years and is never used, so I doubt it has anything to do with this.

The first time the card  failed,  it produced a lot of noise before I shut down the PC. 

It came back when I switched to a different power amp a few days later.

The PC is also connected to a TV and a digital tv receiver....

I don't know what to make out of this....
