I am using an L22 Lstream interface to connect to an Aurora 8. For some time, I have heard a faint audible whine in the background, and unable to locate it using the "usual" methods (cable re-routing, etc.), I have just been living with it until I eventually hopefully figure it out. I now have a clue.

The ASIO buffer size in my system is set to 64. If I increase it to 128, this whine drops in pitch by one octave. If I increase the buffer size to 256, it drops by another octave, etc.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this whine entirely?

thanks

Keith,

Very odd. Do you hear this same whine from the L22 Analog Outputs?

Paul:

I believe that the whine is MORE pronounced on the signal that originates with the L22 analog output. The cabling from the L22 to the Aurora 8 also contains the signal path from the L22 analog output in the same cable bundle. Way back when I acquired this setup, I had your recommended cable maker at that time build a custom cable that included the analog output, because I did not want to lose access to that output when using the "standard" Lstream cable.

I think what I need to do is go spelunking behind my setup (which includes the cabling for a 32-channel analog mixer) and disconnect the cable from the L22 analog output and see if that makes a difference. That will take a little time, however, and I'll report back when I have done this.

Or, is there a way that I can disable the L22 analog output?

Well, you can mute that output in the Lynx Mixer, but its not the same as pulling the cable if we suspect something electrical going on.
