Topic: Lynx two-B strange noise instead of sound.... Posted: April/02/2014 at 1:55am |
Dear All
I got a lynx two-B on Asus Z87-A (last firmware and drivers) and experimented a strange behavior...sometimes.... It work well most of the time but once in a while, it's like the card in not initialize correctly (or another problem) and I only obtain strange sound in my speakers (a bit like a modem style sound bu softer)... It looks like to a digital transmission... Any ideas ? Thanks ! Edited by notred - April/02/2014 at 2:01am |

FW 24, will double check tonight once back at home...
I confirm it is an initialization issue, I disabling/enabling the card in device manager bring it back to life... |

Does the problem seem worse when there is a lot of visual activity, moving windows around or something?
Do you have a different PCI slot in that computer that you can try?

Hi Paul
In fact this not during the utilization. It is right after booting the computer. Most of the time, it works fine but sometime, I don't get normal sound but this strange noise. If I de-enable/re-enable the device, it works back.... When it happen, I noticed I don't hear the 'click' of the card at the end of boot.... Edited by notred - April/06/2014 at 7:27pm |

Hmmm, Can you assign some other device as the default in the Sound Section of Windows Control Panel? Let's see if some process is grabbing a hold of the device on boot up.
Also you might try connecting your monitoring equipment to a different output from the computer in case you have a ground loop. Does this happen when the Lynx Mixer is in its default state (you can restore defaults before shutdown to make sure)?

Thanks for your support...
- I tried with second PCI, not better. - I tried with DVI (instead of HDMI), no better - Lynx mixer is already in default state, I haven't made changes in the setting - I cant try to activate the motherboard sound device (its disabled in bios) and make it as default but this will wait for the WE. I need more time as this is a random issue... |

Also run the DPC latency checker and see if any drivers in the system are misbehaving.

I'd like to but it seems the tool is not working correctly on Wni8. does it still make sense ?
"Windows 8 Compatibility: The DPC latency utility runs on Windows 8 but does not show correct values. The output suggests that the Windows 8 kernel performs badly and introduces a constant latency of one millisecond, which is not the case in practice. DPCs in the Windows 8 kernel behave identical to Windows 7. The utility produces incorrect results because the implementation of kernel timers has changed in Windows 8, which causes a side effect with the measuring algorithm used by the utility. Thesycon is working on a new version of the DPC latency utility and will make it available on this site as soon as it is finished." |

ah, I wasn't aware of that. Unfortunately I don't know of another equivalent diagnostic. Let's see how things go with the onboard sound device as the OS default.

Hi All
FYI, there is another tool, more detailed in some way http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon It did not however show any major problem possibly explaining my issue. I fact, I had in parallel another issue when oversampling (88 or 96) my track and using convolution (I am using JRiver+Audiolense)... Yesterday, I gave up and reinstall totally the computer with Windows 7... First my HDMI ouput not recognizing my video projector (got to use a video inspector module) is now working (so Intel video driver seems better there) Second, my stuttering problem when oversampling is gone providing a bigger buffer than the default 50ms (this change not doing any good in Win8) And so far the Lynx initialization is going fine (will need a couple of additional days to confirm this though...) |

I see. Perhaps we have some issues with the chipset driver support for Win 8 with that motherboard.

Well, yes but it's an Intel Z87 chipset so many people should face the same issue I guess...
Or may be not as PCI are not common on this platform.... Well, I am now happy :-) |
