Topic: LynxTwo Problem Posted: March/04/2014 at 9:00am |
I have a LynxTwo and an Aurora16. They live in different studio rooms.
I just started tracking at 96K on the Aurora, and ever since have been having problems on the Lynx Two. I start up projects and within a minute, I lose audio and get an on again, off again buzzing... (buzz.... buzz... buzz...) When it is buzzing, in the top right corner of reaper these two phrases are alternating in time with the buzz: 96kHz 24bit wav 8/8ch 512 spls ~6.0/10mx ASIO <AND> audio device closed I have latest driver/firmware installed. I have buffers set to 512. I am also having this problem after a full reboot when trying to get old 44.1K projects to play. Quitting Reaper and relaunching results in the buzz being back immediately (cannot play audio even for a minute.) Machine must be rebooted in order to have audio play again, then it is only for a minute before the return of the buzz. This problem did NOT exist until my first time trying to play a 96K project. Since then, the LynxTwo has been unusable. Edited by jdier - March/04/2014 at 11:57am |

To be clear, the Aurora is not connected to the same computer as the LynxTWO, correct?
Can you try playing 96k audio through the Lynx Demo app (Start > All Programs > Lynx Studio Technology > Lynx Demo)? You may need to set the default sample rate for the device to 96k/24-bit from the Sound Section of Control Panel. What type of motherboard is this? From About Lynx Mixer, please list the driver/mixer version and the firmware rev on the LynxTWO card. Thanks

OK. Before you posted, I went through the preferences in reaper and on the Device->audio device settings->ASIO Driver section I UNCHECKED Requested sample rate, which was set at 96000.
This lead to about 20 minutes of worry free 44.1K project work, then 15 minutes of 96K project work, then I got the buzz... buzz... buzz... again. To be clear, the Aurora was connected, but is no longer connected. Right now, just the LynxTWO is connected. (as a note, I tried uninstalling the Aurora Remote Control software, but the uninstall fails) I do not have the Lynx Demo app (Start > All Programs > Lynx Studio Technology > Lynx Demo) When I search the entire computer for 'demo' I come up blank. I do not know the exact motherboard (checking with builder) but here is my device info from the system. Here is the about information from Lynx Mixer: Lynx Mixer Version: 2.00 Build 20 Build Date: Feb 21 2014 LynxWDM.Dll Version: 2.00 Build 20 LynxV264.Sys Version: 2.00 Build 20 LynxTWO-C Serial Number: 2202400209 Rev: NC Firmware Version: 15.0 Date: Mar 09, 2007 VER_PLATFORM_WIN32_NT 6.1 Build 7601 Service Pack 1 Processor: 8 Intel Level 6 Rev 3a09 Memory: Phys 4194303 Avail 4194303 Page 4194303 Avail 4194303 I feel as though a full removal of all Lynx software, and then a reinstall, might be good, but my uninstall attempts on Remote have failed. Let me know what I can do next. Jim |

Two other quick notes.
1. I am not 100% sure that the LynxTWO is in the same slot as it originally was. Not sure that makes a difference, but I thought I would note it. 2. Since my last reboot, audio fails almost immediately regardless of what type of project I open in Reaper. Thanks again for the help on this. Jim |

From my builder:
The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H Uses an Intel Z77 chipset
If they ask, CPU throttling has already been disabled… |

The Gigabyte Z77 motherboard uses the ITE PCI Express to PCI bridge chip which we have found to be problematic. The symptoms are dropouts and audio stopping during playback or recording. We came out with beta firmware for the LynxTWO that would help the situation, but would not solve it. If you would to try the beta firmware, it is available from here.

David,
wondering if there is anything else in your product line that could work for me. I only need two ins and two outs. I use your Aurora 16 for tracking, my LynxTWO is in a different studio and I just need it to do the following: 1. Overdubbing (so I need A/D conversion equal to that of the Aurora)
2. Editing and comping parts 3. Demo/song writing recording (1 mic, sometimes 2) |

Is the Aurora connected to the LynxTWO, or does it have it's own connection to your computer (LT-USB or another interface)?

The aurora WAS connected to this computer via the LT-USB. I moved the Aurora to my tracking studio, THEN installed the LynxTWO in this computer.
I have never had both running at the same time.

I only ran the Aurora for a few days in this computer, and all was OK.
My options at this point seem to be to unload the LynxTWO and replace with and Aurora 8. OR Get a new computer that supports the LynxTWO. Is there any reason and Aurora 8 would not work with my existing computer?

For that motherboard the LT-USB is probably going to be your only option, other than switching to an AES16e for the Aurora 8 connection.

Well, thanks all. I guess I am selling the LynxTWO-C and picking up another Aurora.
If anyone is selling an LT-USB card, or interested in picking up an LynxTWO-C with breakout cables, let me know.

Hi David, The beta version upgrade results in a fault at the end of the update: serial number feedback does not match. Or something like that. Tried installing the 'standard' firmware, which gives a box to fill in the serial number. That worked out ok. After that I retried the BETA but still gives the same error on the serial number. Any advice? Cause my Gigabyte Z87-D3HP isn't appreciated by the Lynx TWO-A and makes any use of the audio card problematic. Kind regards, Maarten van Helden

Maarten,
You might be in a Catch22 situation. With the GigaByte the communication to the card may be so poor that the firmware updater will not work. You might need to update it from another computer. However, since the last update failed, I would not remove the card until you flash it back to the older firmware successfully. Otherwise, the card may need to get re-programmed at our shop or at a distributor.

Thank you for your swift reply. Going back to the original firmware went perfectly fine. After a few hours of testing I come to the thought that Gigabyte might not be the problem. On my previous system, the combination of Gigabyte + Samplitude 8-10 and the Lynx Two-A worked flawless.
If I currently terminate the Lynx Mixer and start Reaper, then it seems to work flawless. If I run the Lynx Mixer and use Reaper with WaveOut as audio system, everything works fine. If I run Lynx Mixer and Reaper in ASIO mode, then the audio stalls after 2 minutes. If I run Samplitude Pro X the audio stalls after two minutes or after several jumps within a project, no matter what.

Strange. So the Lynx Mixer being open is a pertinent factor.
I would try uninstalling the driver from the Lynx Studio Technology program group, and then install build 19g. Here is the link. If that doesn't help, you might look at your video card as a factor if the Lynx Mixer is a catalyst. Check in the Task Manager and see how CPU and memory are impacted when the Lynx Mixer is open. The DPC latency checker would be a good diagnostic tool also to compare Mixer open versus Mixer closed.
