Topic: SynchroLock can't be locked Posted: January/21/2016 at 6:09am |
When I choose the "External" botton(contact with BNC cable), the "SynchroLock" can't be locked(could be locked a few seconds, but become "working" again and again). I change several cable, also the oringinal cable or AES cable, problem stll. But when I choose the "Digital in" botton(contact with AES cable),the "Synchrolock" could be locked as well. Why the "Synchrolock" can't be locked when choose the "External"? Would anyone could help me? Thanks a lot indeed.

Hey nick_ding,
What device are you having a problem with. What external device are you trying to SynchoLock it to?

You are using an AES16e with your Aurora? Can you try a different wordclock source, other than the Symphony?
From the Lynx Mixer: Mixer > About, give me all of the firmware and driver versions.

I have tried other clocks except Sympony's, also tried different PC or Clock cables, still can't be locked.
DRIVER is 2.0 Build 23a. firmware to version 14.0

What sample rate are you attempting to lock to? If it is 44,.1k, try with 48k, and vice versa.

I think you misunderstood. My question was what sample rate you are at when the sync problem occurs. The reason I ask is that there are two different crystal oscillators, one at 44.1 and one at 48. If the behavior happens at one rate and not the other, it could point to a failure of one of the crystals.

I think you might have misunderstood how things are to be clocked.
The AES16e MUST only be clocked either Internally (INTERNAL) or from the digital input (DIGITAL IN 1).
When the AES16e is clocked Internally the Aurora MUST be clocked to AES A.
If you wish to clock from the Apogee product, you must connect the word clock output of the Apogee to the word clock input of the Aurora. Next you must set the AURORA to clock to EXT by pressing the front panel SYNC SOURCE button until it shows EXT. The AES16e must then be clocked by Digital In 1 (from the Aurora).
Please try this then let us know how it is working.

So that means the AES16e just can be clocked 2 ways? I don't use the AURORA, I just use the Apogee Symphony I/O as the main clock. I wanna that the 1 or 2 which would get the less distortion then? 1.choose "Digital In 1", Synchrolock locked 2.choose "External", Synchrolock unlocked

What's more, I wanna to know if the AES16e's gen1( PCIE1.0) or gen2(PCIE2.0)?Also, which slot would better to the AES16e,? Northbridge X16 slot(nearest to the CPU), or Southbridge X4 black slot?

I thought you had an Aurora and the Apogee.
What cable are you using to connect the AES16e to the Apogee? If it is the CBL-AES1604 then you would need two of them to get all 16-channels and the CLOCK IN and CLOCK OUT connectors. The cable plugged into the first port (PORT A) is the one with the word clock INPUT on it.
There really is no difference between using the word clock input and clocking from the digital input. If the digital input works, then just stick with using the digital input.
We do recommend having the AES16e clocked Internally. The reason for this is simple. When the AES16e is clocked internally your DAW software is the master of what sample rate is selected. If you clock externally or from the digital input, then the external device is the clock master and you must manually select the sample rate to match the external rate in your DAW.

I find the same question in the form, the link is: http://www.lynxstudio.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3194 I did the same. Why he could finally locked? But I couldn't.

Sorry, but you didn't answer my question. Are you using the BNC connector for the CBL-AES1604 cable that is plugged into PORT A on the AES16e?
If it is working when using Digital In 1, then why do you need to change it to External? Once SynchroLock has engaged, they work the same.
